If you live in New Lenox or in the surrounding area, a visit to the New Lenox Community Park District should be at the top of your list. Whether it's for an afternoon outing with your family, a day trip with friends, or just because you're looking for a new place to walk around and get out of the office (or your house), you should definitely stop by.
New Lenox Community Park District
The New Lenox Community Park District is made up of five parks: Lions Club Memorial Park, Lions Club Sports Complex and Outdoor Aquatic Center, Dunham Woods Forest Preserve, Oak Grove Playlot, and Dunham Woods Arboretum. Each one has something different to offer, but the most visited park would have to be Dunham Woods.
The Dunham Woods Forest Preserve is mainly made up of nature trails, educational exhibits, and a large pond that is great for fishing. Near the edge of the preserve, there are also public restrooms which can come in handy if you're planning on spending an entire day out there.
If you're more into an active activity, Dunham Woods also has a disc golf course and a bike trail that runs through the park. The bike trail is about 3 miles long and connects with other trails in New Lenox and surrounding areas.
On top of everything else, Dunham Woods is also home to one of the best sled hills around. So, the next time it snows, gather up your friends and family and head on down.
